I write this with mixed emotions, but it has been something that I have thought of for a few years now and made this decision, along with Cindy and Mai, many months ago.

16 years is a damn long time to do something, no matter how much you love it. But when that something becomes an overwhelming amount of work and not as much fun anymore, it is time to say goodbye.

Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate will close it’s doors at the end of this 2018 season.

Steve and Finnian

I want to thank each and every one of you who have made this club better with your hard work, presence, friendship and awesome dogs!

We love what we have built and DiscDoGG has had a very good name and reputation. I would honestly love to see a new club formed by anyone other than me, haha. Now the door is open for that to happen.

It wasn’t easy to get this club off the ground and we didn’t have any handbook or guidelines to tell us how to do things, but in the early days, EVERY club member knew how to do every task there was as we had to figure it out together. We could easily rotate jobs to give each other a break and many hands made light work and no one got burned out and had to work the whole tournament.

I want to do other things and not spend so much time on the club. I want to spend more weekend time with Irish and Whiskey and bring Finn places where he doesn’t spend 90% of the day in his crate. As it is now, Jill and I have to attend every tournament even if something cool comes up. We don’t have the freedom to pick and choose what events we go to as we have all the “stuff.”

We still have 3 tournaments left and the Oct 13th event in Dixon will also be our farewell party. If you haven’t come out in a while, we would love to see you before the end of the season!

The early days of DDoGG

I know some of you will be mad or disappointed, but please realize that we have dedicated so much time in 16 years and it is time for us to move on. I will be totally up front in telling you all that All Dogs Sports Park in Lodi has made me a few offers to teach and maybe even hold a few events without me doing any admin stuff and I will pursue that. I will also continue private lessons and seminars/workshops There will hopefully be full tournaments there next year, but not near as many.

It has been one hell of a ride and I want to thank you all for joining me on it!
