Crusty Classic 2009! Jonathan and Aztec win big!

Known as the Nor Cal vs So Cal competition, the Crusty Classic has been a friendly get together for disc doggers of California for the past 9 years. This weekend is a celebration and is dedicated to the memory of Steve "Crusty" Walsh, whose enthusiasm for the sport will always be remembered by those who knew him. On a very windy weekend (up to 40 mph to be exact) in Lancaster, CA on October 3rd and 4th 2009, Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate drove South with their game face on and ready to compete.

Jonathan Offi and Aztec had a very successful weekend placing in the top spot winning the honors of being named Best of the West Champion and California State Champion. Michelle Martin and Jasmine had an excellent performance placing 4th overall for the weekend out of over 50 competitors.

On Saturday, the So Cal club hosted the UFO major competition where the top 3 competitors of each event earned a spot to the UFO world competition. Jason Largent and Jasmine earned a spot at this competition placing 2nd in open Toss n Fetch out of over 50 competitors. In open Freestyle, Team Aztec, Team Ruby, and Team Jasmine all placed in the top ten at their first UFO major. Go team Pit Bull!

Sunday was an amazing day for the Nor Cal crew. In top honors, Steve Teer and Irish placed 1st in Freestyle followed by Jonathan and Aztec taking 2nd place and Michelle and Jasmine taking 4th with 50 teams competing. Nor cal took the top 5 spots in the Toss n Fetch competition. Robbie Shyken and Taz placed 1st in Toss n Fetch with Donna Malmov and Sydney placing 2nd, Jason and Harley placing 3rd, Michelle and Harley placing 4th and Jason and Jasmine placing 5th out of over 30 competitors in this division. Mike Bucci and Gilroy made their freestyle début, great job you two! Thanks to the So Cal club for hosting the 2009 Crusty Classic, it was a great turn out and a fantastic weekend.

Sammy Davis, Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate’s only Frisbee catching dachshund, took home first place on September 5, 2009 at the California State Fair. This was Sammy Davis's seventh win in a dachsund race. He took first place June 13, 2009 at Golden Gate Fields in the 2009 Wiener Nationals sponsored by Wienerschnitzel. There were a total of 108 dachshunds competing in the race, with 9 heats and a final heat to declare the winner. It also qualified him to move on to the Nor Cal Wiener Nationals Championship race which will be held on November 14, 2009 during half time of the UC Berkeley vs University of Arizona football game.

On Aug.9 2009, DisDoGG's newest members, Frank Rosenblum, Jennifer Moore and Pismo traveled to Colorado to compete in the Quadruped. This would be only their third competition! Jennifer and Pismo had a very respectable showing, but Frank and Pismo earned themselves a new nickname, "the dark horse". They were completely unknown and came into the Men's Open to win their heat, move into the Finals and take 3rd place in the very competitive Men's Open division! Way to go Team Pismo!

They plan on attending, so wish them luck! Guinness and Sandy also placed in the Master's division (for dogs over 9) and took home the Gold with the Old!
